Following the completion of several projects and the Jubilee Party primaries, President Kenyatta will embark on a much-anticipated campaign trip of his vast Mt Kenya region to promote Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya flagbearer Raila Odinga.
According to reports, Kenyatta would officially kickstart his tour of the restive Mt Kenya region later this month.
According to Kieni MP Kanini Kega who is the Jubilee director of elections, President Kenyatta will hit the ground running after numerous development projects are completed.
“We also want to create a level playfield for our candidates. He will commission projects as he is not just going for politics,” he said.
According to the President’s aides, after the Jubilee nominations are completed and Azimio has decided on Mr Odinga’s running mate, he will go on the campaign trail. Those putting together his agenda hope it will be a campaign-plus-development tour.
“The President only needs 90 days to campaign for his preferred successor. He should go to the ground after nominations. He will be parading the line-up. People can see how our party is gaining momentum,” said Jubilee deputy secretary-general Joshua Kutuny.
His tour comes at the backdrop of an offensive at his home ground led by Deputy President William Ruto.
Ruto has pitched camp in Murang’a and Kiambu counties campaigning against President Uhuru and his ally Raila Odinga.
