President William Ruto has congratulated Kenyan skater Kelvin Kiarie following his outstanding performance at the African Skating Championship held in Cairo, Egypt.
In a congratulatory message, the president praised Kiarie for his remarkable achievement, describing it as a proud moment for both the athlete and the nation.“Well done Kelvin Kiarie on winning gold at the African Skating Championship in Cairo, Egypt. This is a proud moment for you and for our nation,” Ruto stated.
Ruto Congratulates Kelvin Kiarie The President highlighted Kiari’s victory as a symbol of determination and excellence, noting that his success serves as inspiration to many young athletes across Kenya and the African continent.“You have conquered the continent and your journey is an inspiration to many aspiring sportsmen and women in Kenya and Africa,” he added.
Ruto further expressed confidence in Kiari’s future, emphasizing that his talent and competitive spirit position him for even greater success on the global stage.“I am confident that your talent, drive, and competitive spirit will carry you further onto the global stage. Congratulations, and keep flying our flag high,” the President concluded.
Before his celebrated victory in Cairo, Kelvin Kiarie had already delivered a strong performance earlier in April 2026 at the International Skating Challenge in Cotonou, Benin.
In Cotonou, Kiarie clinched two medals, including a gold, and finished first in his category. Yet the moment that should have marked a national celebration was instead defined by absence.
There were no ministry officials in attendance, no flag bearers to share in the moment, and no corporate sponsorship visibility around his victory. The Kenyan national anthem played in a nearly empty arena as Kiarie stood alone on the podium, holding the flag and celebrating his achievement by himself.
Dressed in a white and blue jersey paired with black and white pants, he skated around the venue, visibly emotional but proud of his performance.“Hello Kenyans! I just did it! It is gold for Kenya. I am in Benin, West Africa, and I am so proud to represent my country. Thank you!” he said after the win.
