President William Ruto Reorganizes Jamhuri Day

President William Ruto’s new approach to national holidays differs from that of his predecessor, former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Today, Ruto will lead the country in commemorating the 59th Jamhuri Day, his second national fete since taking office in September, at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

The President stated that in the future, national celebrations will focus on specific subjects that are relevant to the nation’s ambitions.

The Cabinet said on Tuesday that all official holidays, including Madaraka Day, Mashujaa Day, and Jamhuri Day, will have a theme.

It stated that this is intended to showcase the progress gained in accomplishing national goals during such events.

“All national events will have a sectorial theme to complement the rotation of the host county for national days,” a Cabinet dispatch said.

Uhuru instituted rotational national celebrations during his term, in which national events were honored in the counties on a rotating basis.

Kisii, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru, and Kirinyaga are among the counties that have hosted national festivities.

Previously, all national events were held in Nairobi, the capital.

The theme of the Jamhuri Day celebrations on Monday will be ‘Connect, Innovate, and Inspire.’

It will emphasize the significance of information and communication technology in recognizing Kenyan youth pioneering innovations.

Adults who attend the celebrations will be eligible for free technology scholarships from the government.
