Britain’s Princess Anne has paid a visit to Ukraine to show solidarity with children and families affected by the ongoing war, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Wednesday.
During her trip to Kyiv on Tuesday, the Princess Royal, who turned 75 in August, met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the UK’s continued support for Ukraine amid its fight against Russia’s invasion.
Anne also joined Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelenska, in paying tribute at a memorial dedicated to children who have died since the conflict began in February 2022. She laid a toy at the site as a symbolic gesture of remembrance.
The Princess met Ukrainian children who have been displaced or deported by Russia and visited a rehabilitation centre where she spoke with veterans recovering after serving on the frontlines.
Her visit comes just weeks after her nephew, Prince Harry, visited Kyiv with representatives of the Invictus Games Foundation to promote new initiatives supporting the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.
Princess Anne’s trip underscores Britain’s ongoing humanitarian and moral support for Ukraine, complementing London’s military and diplomatic assistance since the outbreak of the war.
