Private Hospitals have reached a temporary deal to continue offering services to NHIF card holders until June 31.
This comes after a meeting by top Ministry of Health officials and private healthcare providers.
Several private hospitals had suspended services to NHIF patients.
The dispute began when the national medical insurer lowered doctors’ rates, prompting private hospitals to accuse NHIF of jeopardizing patient care, claiming that the move was unsustainable.
They also asked that the facilities be issued contract extensions prior to beginning any engagement.
Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Mercy Mwangangi said the government will review the health care packages to ensure both parties are served.
The Kenya Association of Private Hospitals (KPHA) had on Friday threatened to turn away patients under the national medical insurance starting today.
Dr. Davji Bhamji, the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union said the NHIF erred in capping rates citing lack of consultations.
“NHIF made a unilateral decision without consulting health care. there is need for government to show unity with the private sectors to ensure that service provision continues seamlessly.” he added
