Professor Kabiru Isa Dandago, a distinguished scholar and former Commissioner for Finance in Kano State, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. He died at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital following a brief illness.
He served as the Kano State Commissioner for Finance between June 2015 and October 2017 (some reports state up to 2018) under the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
A renowned Professor of Accounting and Taxation, he was a long-standing faculty member at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), having joined in 1990. He previously served as the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences (2004–2008).
At the time of his death, he was the National President of the Government Arabic Teachers College Gwale Old Students Association (GATCOSA). He also served as a Federal Commissioner of the Tax Appeal Tribunal (TAT) starting in July 2018.
Just days before his passing, on Saturday, March 1, 2026, Professor Dandago presented a paper on economic challenges in Northern Nigeria at a Ramadan Lecture organized by the Islamic Forum of Nigeria.
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over his death, describing him as a dedicated public servant and an accomplished scholar whose contributions left a lasting footprint on the state. Funeral prayers were scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2026, at his residence in the Rijiyar Zaki Quarters, Kano.
