Prosecution granted 21days to supply witness statements and documents in Humphrey Kariuki’s tax evasion

BY PRUDENCE WANZA – The prosecution has been granted 21 days to furnish the defense in Humphrey Kariuki’s tax evasion case with witness statements and documents to be relied on in the case.

Kariuki faces Sh.41 billion tax evasion charges which he denied.
The prosecutor in the matter, Vincent Monda, told the court that the documents required were in large volumes and they would need more time to supply them to the defense.

Monda further stated that some documents were supplied to the accused persons but there are still more documents to be provided.

Kariuki’s lawyers, Kioko Kilukumi and Cecil Miller told the court they were supplied with 27 witness statements and 23 exhibits on 4th September 2019 which according to them was very late.

Magistrate Martha Mutuku ruled that the prosecution has until September 20 to supply the documents.

The case will be mentioned on 26th September 2019.
