In a significant escalation of ongoing protests, demonstrators in Iran attempted to break into a local government building in the southern province of Fars on Wednesday.
The unrest, now in its fourth day, was triggered by a sudden currency collapse that has sparked public anger.
Authorities reported that three police officers were injured and four people were arrested during the confrontation in the city of Fasa.

Further clashes were also reported in the western provinces of Hamedan and Lorestan, signaling a widening of the disturbances.
In the capital, Tehran, authorities declared Wednesday a bank holiday—a move widely seen as an attempt to prevent gatherings and quell the spreading unrest.
