NAIROBI, Kenya — Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, has lauded the strides made under the National Equipment Service Programme (NESP), an ambitious government initiative aimed at modernizing Kenya’s public health facilities.
Speaking after receiving a detailed progress briefing from the NESP Implementation Committee, Dr. Oluga praised the multi-agency team—comprising representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Council of Governors—for their unwavering commitment to strengthening health infrastructure across the country.
“The dedication demonstrated by the NESP team is commendable,” said Dr. Oluga. “Equipping our health facilities with the right tools is a cornerstone of effective care. This is how we build a responsive, resilient health system.”
Led by Dr. Isaac Kimani, the committee presented updates on the rollout of modern medical technologies in public hospitals nationwide. The initiative supports Kenya’s broader goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by ensuring all citizens have access to quality, affordable healthcare.
Dr. Oluga emphasized the importance of collaboration between national and county governments in delivering efficient healthcare services, affirming the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to ensure no region is left behind.
“The NESP initiative is not just about machines and equipment—it’s about saving lives, building trust in our health system, and empowering frontline workers to serve with excellence,” the PS noted.
The National Equipment Service Programme has been a key pillar in Kenya’s health sector reform strategy, seeking to close gaps in diagnostic and treatment capacity by providing essential tools and technologies where they are needed most.
As the country moves closer to its UHC target, Dr. Oluga reaffirmed that investment in health infrastructure will remain a top priority.
