Principal Secretary Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya (Public Service and Human Capital Development) was recently reported to have ordered journalists to leave an event she was presiding over.Â

The incident occurred on January 29, 2026, while the PS was inspecting the ongoing construction of the Kenya School of Government (KSG) Vihiga Campus.Â
During the site visit, Dr. Imbunya reportedly chased away journalists who had arrived to cover the inspection.
The PS was in Vihiga to assess the progress of the Sh1.2 billion project, which is intended to serve as a regional hub for training public servants.
This move has drawn attention as it follows a period where the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has repeatedly condemned the exclusion of accredited media from state functions.Â
Dr. Imbunya, a former Dean at Kaimosi Friends University, took office in April 2025 and has recently been ranked among top-performing PSs in various polls. There has been no official statement yet from her department regarding why the media was barred from this specific site visit.
