Strengthening global partnerships and aligning Kenya’s postal sector with evolving international standards remain central to advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda and positioning it competitively within the global e-commerce ecosystem.

To this end, Principal Secretary Stephen Isaboke today held a meeting with Marjan Osvald, Deputy Director General of the Universal Postal Union, on the sidelines of the 11th Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) Plenipotentiary Conference.

The discussions focused on aligning postal policy and regulatory frameworks with the demands of digital trade and e-commerce, while balancing universal service obligations with commercial sustainability.

Key areas of engagement included strengthening cross-border standards, enhancing customs integration and positioning Kenya as a regional e-commerce hub through improved parcel logistics, tracking systems and last-mile delivery.

The meeting also explored adoption of emerging technologies such as AI and automation in postal services, promotion of green and sustainable practices and expansion of public-private partnerships.

The PS also sought technical support and capacity building from the UPU, alongside opportunities for pilot initiatives and deeper collaboration.
