By Michelle Ndaga

Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, has emphasized the importance of deepening community participation in public health and youth empowerment as part of Kenya’s broader social transformation agenda.

Speaking during an interview on Inooro TV’s Ruciini Show on Monday morning, Ms. Muthoni said the Social Health Authority (SHA) is spearheading reforms aimed at improving the quality, safety, and accountability of health services nationwide.

She noted that the ongoing initiatives under SHA are designed to make healthcare delivery more efficient, transparent, and accessible to every Kenyan.

The PS also highlighted the Jamii Imara Mashinani initiative, which seeks to bring government services closer to citizens while promoting dialogue and inclusive decision-making.

She described the programme as a key platform for ensuring that national policies are aligned with the real needs and priorities of local communities.

Addressing youth empowerment, Ms. Muthoni pointed to the NYOTA Project  a government initiative that provides young people with training, mentorship, and entrepreneurship skills.

Through this project, she said, the government is equipping the youth to create jobs, boost productivity, and contribute meaningfully to local and national development.

Ms. Muthoni reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to building a healthier, more resilient, and empowered population through community-centered approaches and sustained collaboration with citizens.
