PS Mary Muthoni Highlights Health Reforms in Weru TV Interview

By Michelle Ndaga

The Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, on Friday evening appeared on Weru TV to shed light on the government’s ongoing health sector reforms aimed at bringing essential services closer to the people.

During the interview, the PS emphasized the rollout of the Social Health Insurance (SHA) scheme, which she described as a game changer in expanding access to affordable care. She particularly highlighted the Lipa SHA Pole Polecontribution plan, which allows households to make flexible and manageable payments toward their health cover.

Ms. Muthoni also underscored the vital role of Community Health Promoters, who serve as the first point of contact for families.

These promoters, she noted, are instrumental in strengthening preventive care by delivering timely health education and linking households to health facilities.

Beyond health financing and prevention, the PS pointed to government efforts in hygiene promotion and the fight against drug and substance abuse, issues she said remain central to building healthier, more resilient communities.

Reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment, Ms. Muthoni urged the public to embrace the reforms and actively participate in safeguarding their health. “Our goal is to ensure that no Kenyan is left behind in accessing quality healthcare,” she said.

The appearance comes as the Ministry of Health intensifies public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the new health policies and strengthen community involvement in achieving universal health coverage.
