The Public Service Commission is seeking to recruit vice-chancellors (VC) and deputy vice-chancellors (DVC) to 10 universities.
PSC in an advertisement issued on Tuesday said that the applications should be submitted on or before March 20 at 5:00 pm at the latest.
Institutions that will get new vice-chancellors are Pwani University, Kisii University, Karatina University, University of Eldoret and Machakos University.
“Others are South Eastern Kenya University, Technical University of Kenya, University of Kabianga and Alupe University,” reads a notice in the local dailies.
All applicants are required to be holders of a Ph.D. from a reputable university, have at least 10 years of academic and research experience at senior levels, and have served substantively with demonstrable results in the position of Principal of a Constituent College or as a Deputy Vice-Chancellor of a university.
Universities seeking DVCs are Pwani (two vacancies: Academic and Student Affairs; and Research and Extension), Kisii (Administration and Finance), Karatina (two vacancies: Academic, Research and Student Affairs; and Planning, Finance and Administration), University of Eldoret (Academic and Student Affairs) and Machakos (Administration, Planning and Finance).
Applicants are required to be at least an associate professor with an earned Ph.D. from a reputable university in Kenya, have at least 8 years of academic and research experience at a senior lecturer position, and at least 6 years of progressive experience in a senior university leadership position such as dean, deputy college principal, or deputy vice chancellor.
At SEKU, PSC will replace Geoffrey Muluvi who has been serving as the Vice Chancellor’s committee chairperson while at Kisii University, PSC will be seeking to replace John Akama who has been serving as the VC for two terms.
At the Mombasa-based TUK, PSC seeks to replace Francis Aduol while at Karatina University, it will replace Mucai Muchiri.
At Machakos University, the Commission seeks to replace Lucy Irungu while at Pwani University, it will be replacing Mohammed Rajab.
Candidates will be needed to submit their applications manually or electronically.
PSC noted that all applications should be submitted together with a detailed curriculum vitae, ID or passport copies, academic certificate copies, testimonials, or any other relevant supporting documents. All these should also be scanned.
Shortlisted candidates shall be published on the commission’s website.
