Christian Pulisic was keen to secure a loan move away from Chelsea before the end of the transfer window, but it has been blocked by the club’s chairman Todd Boehly.
The 23-year-old has played in all four of the Blues’ Premier League matches so far this season, but only as a substitute, racking up just 76 minutes on the pitch in total.
There has been plenty of interest in taking the American on loan, with the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle keen on him, while a string of clubs across Europe would have snapped him up on a loan deal.
The Athletic report that Pulisic was even keen to extend his Chelsea contract to secure a loan move this season, so the club would not see his transfer value fall as he heads into the last year of his contract which runs to 2024.
However, Boehly has blocked any potential exit and Pulisic will not be leaving Stamford Bridge before the transfer deadline on Thursday, which has reportedly disappointed the forward.
Pulisic’s first-team chances at Chelsea appear to have improved in recent days after Ross Barkley’s contract was terminated and Callum Hudson-Odoi agreed a loan switch to Bayer Leverkusen. This is after Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner left earlier in the window as well.
He remains behind the likes of Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount in the pecking order, but it is not like he has been frozen out completely under Thomas Tuchel.
