There is no means for the US or NATO to engage Russia directly, and although vague threats might divert attention away from internal issues, a real strike would not go over well with Russian sympathizers in Eastern Europe.
First there is no risk of a world war – that’s not what this is about.
Whatever NATO and the West do, they don’t want a war between the US and Russia for the same reason no Country on Earth would wish to invade Russia.
We all know that Putin controls the World’s largest nuclear arsenal and any attempt to invade Russia would automatically be fatal to the rest of the World.
Again, Ukraine is not a NATO country which is why Russia could even consider this and try all means possible to merge the two countries.
Putin seeks to maintain influence over Ukraine, as Ukraine is seen as a strategic buffer zone between Russia and NATO.
Additionally, Putin has expressed a desire to protect ethnic Russians in Ukraine, particularly those living in the Crimea region.
In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine, citing the need to protect the Russian-speaking population there.
There are also geopolitical factors at play, such as Russia’s desire to maintain access to the Black Sea and its ports, as well as its broader efforts to challenge the influence of the West in the region.
Overall, Putin’s actions in Ukraine appear to be motivated by a combination of strategic, ethnic, and geopolitical factors.
Ukraine Leaks
Kyiv claims that the leak of dozens of secret US documents about the situation in Ukraine has had little impact on its battle plans, but “particular tactics” may have changed.
US officials are attempting to track out the source of the leak, which is the worst to affect the US military in recent years.
Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak stated that, despite the disclosure of sensitive war documents, Kyiv’s strategic goals remained unaltered, but that tactical tactics were always susceptible to modification.
This follows allegations from Volodymyr Zelensky’s office that Ukraine has already revised its war plans in response to the disclosure of a huge number of secret military documents in the US.
