Qatar Royal Family To Ban Beer Sales

Fans will not be able to purchase alcohol near World Cup venues.

The decision comes only days before the tournament’s opening game in Qatar on Sunday.

Initially, Qatar wanted Budweiser stands to be less conspicuous, but alcohol will no longer be offered at stadiums.

“These have been long-term negotiations, and the overriding view from everyone concerned was that the stadiums need to be for everyone,” a source briefed on the decision told Sky News.

“This World Cup is unique in that a larger number of fans are coming from the Middle East and South Asia, where alcohol does not play such a large role in the culture.”
