Qatar: World Cup Fans Risk Death Penalty If Found With Cocaine

Fans caught attempting to sneak narcotics into Qatar for the World Cup might be sentenced to death.

The Euro 2020 final between England and Italy at Wembley Stadium last summer saw massive intoxicated and drugged-up crowds swarm the streets of London, causing pandemonium.

Over 20 people were arrested by the Metropolitan Police as a swarm of ticketless fans stormed the turnstiles to gain entry to the match.

People who smuggle drugs into the country face a 20-year prison sentence under Law No. 9 of 1987 on Control and Regulation of Narcotic Drugs and Dangerous Psychotropic Substances.

Repeat offenders, however, could be sentenced to death or life in prison.

On the government website, it states: “There is zero tolerance for drugs-related offences. The penalties for the use of, trafficking, smuggling and possession of drugs (even residual amounts) are severe.

“Punishment can include lengthy custodial sentences, heavy fines and deportation. Many people transit via Hamad International Airport on their way to other destinations.
