Queen Elizabeth Breaks Silence On Prince Philip’s Death

The Queen has described the death of the Duke of Edinburgh as “having left a huge void in her life”, her son the Duke of York has said.

Speaking at a small service at the Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor on Sunday, Prince Andrew said his father’s death was a “terrible loss”.

He said he loved his father, who was “always somebody you could go to”.

Describing how his death would resonate with the public, he added: “We’ve lost the grandfather of the nation.”

Philip spent 65 years supporting the queen, retiring from his public role in 2017 and staying largely out of the view since.

In his active years, he helped set a new course for the monarchy under a young queen, as well as environmental causes, science and technology.

Over the years, the queen acknowledged Philip’s deep influence on her, calling him her “strength and stay” in a speech on their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997.
