In an interview with the BBC on Monday, Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga stated that if elected, he will deal decisively with corruption.
He stated that there will be no sacred cows under his regime, regardless of social status.
“If you find evidence linking him (Uhuru Kenyatta) or members of his family that you have exposed previously to corruption, what will you do?” Raila was asked.
“Nobody is indispensable in the war against corruption. So, we will deal with everybody equally,” Raila said.
He also stated that if he wins the August 9 election, he may appoint Uhuru to an advisory role in his government.
He did, however, clarify that Uhuru will not play an active role in government.
“He can be an advisor, he can support the government in terms of things that they are doing particularly internationally.”
Despite being the chairman of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party, Uhuru will only serve as an advisor, according to the ODM leader.
He was, however, challenged by the fact that Uhuru recently stated that he would not be leaving office.
“He is not leaving the country, I think that’s what he meant,” Raila said.
The debate over Uhuru remaining in office and playing an active role in government at the end of his second term was sparked by Cotu boss Francis Atwoli, who stated that at 60, Uhuru would still be too young to retire.
Deputy President William Ruto and his allies have seized on this statement, claiming that Uhuru endorsed Raila for the presidency in order for him to continue ruling the country by proxy.
