Never bet on Kalonzo Musyoka.
When it feels like he is politically stale, the Tseikuru Political giant bounces back.
After Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 2018 merger, Kalonzo was relegated to the list of politicians with a bright past.
He had other ideas. Now he is barking loudly for his sterling running mate position.
He has galvanised the Kamba Community around himself. And created an invincible wall that affords him his 9th political reincarnation.
He has refused to board the interview bus purchased by Raila Odinga.
He has called the bluff on Raila attempts to undertake a running mate suitability study.
So why has he rejected the political underview?
Kalonzo is in competition with GEMA for running mate.
Specifically Martha Karua. Peter Kenneth. And whoever else the mountainous region wants to confer to Azimio as Raila’s ticket mate.
The reason? Central Kenya has been dancing with DP Ruto and his one wheeler machine.
Bluntly, Kalonzo handlers say GEMA has no claim to the Raila ticket. Because they support Ruto.
Azimio is politically preparing for August 9th poll minus the GEMA vote.
The sure bet is on the Akamba, on the diminutive shoulders of Kalonzo.
And the cast of Charity Ngilu, Mutula Kilonzo, Nzioka Waita, Kivutha Kibwana and Dr. Alfred Mutua.
The narrative about the under view, branded as interview was conceived to diffuse pressure in Azimio. And prepare the ground for Raila to confer Kalonzo the benefit.
The wheelbarrow nation has already settled on Professor Kithuke Kindiki. Or so it appears, Raila options are limited to Kalonzo.
After the President Kibaki burial, Raila retreated to the caves of Mt Kenya to campaign.
It would appear Raila has settled on Kalonzo and is playing games with other contenders.
To up the game, Kalonzo attack dogs have been barking relentlessly.
And the band wagon has a new leader, in Gideon Mpi, the KANU maestro.
Politics has no rules. But it has familiar tactics such as fake public plenary and public participation.
This is what Kalonzo is perfecting as he drives to Mombasa on a campaign outing to bolster his chances.
Raila would have wished Kalonzo to be relegated to the position of Speaker.
But the Tseikuru hard man has held out for his favourite running mate position.
