Raila Man Gaucho Released On Ksh.5K Bail After City Hall Arrest

Bunge la Mwananchi president Calvin Okoth Otieno alias Gaucho was released on Ksh.5,000 cash bail by a Kiambu court on Tuesday following his arrest outside City Hall in Nairobi on Monday.

Gaucho was reportedly apprehended by undercover police while engaging supporters outside the county headquarters for unknown reasons.

According to detectives, the aspiring politician who is a staunch supporter of the opposition leader Raila Odinga as well as former president Uhuru Kenyatta was arraigned on charges of creating disturbance.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Gaucho pleaded not guilty.

“Earlier today, Calvin Okoth Otieno alias “Gaucho” was arraigned before Kiambu law courts on charges of creating disturbance contrary to section 95 (1)(b) of the penal code. The suspect pleaded not guilty and was released on a Sh20,000 bond or cash bail of Sh5,000,” the DCI said.

It is the second time in a week to arrest Gaucho, a loyalist of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party leader Raila Odinga.

Last week, he was arrested and detained overnight at Muthangari police station before being released with no charges following his arrest on May 23, 2023.

The aspiring politician wondered why police arrested him as he was heading to Nation Media Group for an interview. He protested the move terming it harassment.

“I went to Central to pick up my phones that were taken the last time I was arrested. But when I entered one of the offices, the officers said that there were some people looking for me. At first, I thought it was a joke but later on, seven people came and picked me saying they were looking for me.”

“They took my phone before I called Babu Owino and switched it off. They have not told me why they arrested me.”

Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa warned the government to stop intimidating Kenyans.

“They have started targeting and arresting Azimio supporters. We had a young man referred to as Gaucho, one that my successor said was a lowly person and should not be seen with great leaders. These are the real hustlers who are taken for a ride by the hustlers in government,” he said.

Wamalwa claimed Gaucho’s arrest was meant to intimidate him after he made a hard-hitting statement at Jubilee’s National Delegates Conference in Nairobi on May 23, 2023.

The former CS vowed to ensure Gaucho’s unconditional release.
