Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has paid tribute to his longtime aide and bodyguard, George Oduor, describing him as a steadfast and reliable figure not only to him but also to the broader Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family.
Oduor, who passed away on Wednesday while receiving treatment at a city hospital, was remembered by Raila as a vigilant and highly professional individual dedicated to his duty.
“George has been part of Jaramogi’s and my family since the late 1980s. We have faced challenges together, stood strong, and risen through difficult times,” Raila stated.
He went on to acknowledge Oduor’s unwavering commitment, describing him as a calm, confident, and professional aide who remained a pillar of support over the years.
“I will deeply miss George, and I extend my sympathies to the many friends who already feel his absence,” he added.
Raila also expressed heartfelt condolences to Oduor’s widow, Carol George, his family, colleagues, and friends, saying, “On behalf of Mama Ida and the entire Jaramogi family, I extend our deepest sympathies during this painful time. May the Almighty grant him eternal rest.”
Oduor began his career with Raila’s father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, in the late 1980s and later transitioned to Raila’s security team after Jaramogi’s passing in 1994.
In addition to his role as a bodyguard, Oduor was reportedly a police reservist and had undergone VIP protection training both locally and internationally.
While he kept much of his personal life private, Oduor was a highly visible presence within Raila’s security detail. His passing has drawn tributes from leaders allied to Raila, who have extended their condolences to both his family and the former Prime Minister.
