Raila: Ruto Win A ‘Big Joke’

Raila Odinga, the One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate, has called the presidential election result a “joke” and condemned the country’s celebrations over William Ruto’s victory as President-Elect.

Odinga stated that given the discord and confusion inside the election commission, it was apparent that the verification and tallying were tainted by malpractices during a meeting with religious leaders who paid him a courtesy call at his Karen residence.

“We ran this race until the finishing point and now one team of the referees are saying this candidate has won while the other side is saying that another candidate has won,” he said, “It doesn’t make sense at all. This is shameful and it shows that our democracy has a long way to go.”

He stated that Ruto’s celebrations are premature because the Supreme Court is still in session.

The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya flagbearer expressed optimism that the Supreme Court will grant him justice as they seek to annul the commission’s results declarations as announced by Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

“We do not want bloodshed in this nation, which is why we will file a lawsuit with the Supreme Court with evidence to establish that it was a farce and not an election,” Odinga stated.

Anyone who is unhappy with the presidential results declared by the IEBC on August 15 has until Monday to submit a petition with the Supreme Court.
