Raila Odinga Promises Central With Goodies

Raila Odinga, the presidential candidate of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, wooed Mt Kenya on May 1 with promises of a revived economy, improved infrastructure, and farmer support.

If he wins the presidency, he promises to provide farmers with subsidized fertilizer and other farm inputs, as well as a guaranteed market for their produce.

“By doing so, we will ensure that agriculture benefits our farmers,” he explained. His government will provide free education from primary school to university, according to the former Prime Minister.

Mr Odinga attacked Deputy President William Ruto’s bottom-up economic model and promised better job opportunities for all Kenyans while speaking at a rally after attending a church service at the St Peter ACK church in Nyeri County.

“We want money in the pockets of the youth.” We will also assist entrepreneurs in obtaining loans with a seven-year repayment grace period to allow them to repay their debts,” he said.

Mr Odinga also promised a social welfare program dubbed “Babacare,” in which every Kenyan will receive free medical care and vulnerable families will be paid a monthly stipend of Sh6,000.

“Every Kenyan, including children, will have access to health care under Babacare.” He added, “I will also support single mothers and widows.”

He promised to fight corruption by closing any loopholes that could be used to steal public funds.

Mr Odinga was flanked by Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, who are both rumored to be running mates for Mr Odinga.
