Raila Set To Conclude Coast Tour

Raila Odinga, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya presidential candidate, is wrapping up his coastal tour today, Friday, July 15, 2022, as he campaigns in Kilifi county.

Raila and his Azimio brigade began their five-day campaign tour of the coastal region on July 12, 2022, in Taita Taveta county.

So far, the Azimio caravan has toured Taita Taveta, Kwale, and Mombasa counties. Today, Raila, his running mate Martha Karua, and several leaders affiliated with their campaign are expected to camp in Kilifi county, where they will campaign at several stops.

The Azimio brigade has camped in the region in a bid to have the entire region rallying behind them.

Yesterday, while campaigning in Mombasa, the former Prime Minister urged the people of the coastal city to embrace six-piece voting for his ODM party.

Raila believes that six-piece voting will ensure the ODM party wins in Mombasa County in the August 9 General Elections.

“I don’t want to be a General without an army. I need my foot soldiers in the County Assembly, National Assembly, Senate and most importantly, the Governor so as to be able to deliver on my vision for the country,” Raila said.

Raila’s call for six-piece voting puts him at odds with other parties in the Azimio coalition that are also running candidates for various elective positions.

Even though they are all members of the Azimio coalition, ODM governor candidate Nassir, Wiper’s team led by Mike Sonko, and VDP governor candidate Awiti Bolo continue to attack each other.

Unlike in Nairobi, where Azimio allied parties all agreed on one candidate, Polycarp Igathe, the parties in Mombasa decided to field their own candidates, potentially splitting Azimio votes and favoring their rivals.
