The body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is set to be airlifted from Kisumu to his rural home in Bondo, Siaya County, this evening ahead of his burial on Sunday.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo confirmed that the body will not be transported by road as earlier planned, citing logistical and security concerns.
According to Omollo, the decision to airlift the body from Kisumu’s Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium to Bondo was reached after consultations between the National Funeral Steering Committee and the Odinga family.
He said the move was meant to ensure a dignified, secure, and well-coordinated send-off for the late opposition leader.
“The body will be flown directly from Kisumu to Bondo due to logistical and security reasons,” Omollo stated.
Preparations for the burial ceremony are ongoing at Raila’s Opoda Farm, where thousands of mourners, dignitaries, and international guests are expected to gather for the final farewell on Sunday.
