Following the filing of nine petitions before the Supreme Court on Monday opposing the election result of president-elect William Ruto, seven judges have until September 5 to reach a verdict.
The seven judges are led by Chief Justice Martha Koome, along with Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, Justices William Ouko, Mohammed Ibrahim, Justice (Dr.) Smokin Wanjala, Lady Justice Njoki Ndungu, and Justice Isaac Lenaola.
According to the Judiciary, the Supreme Court will conduct its business throughout the allocated 14 days.
On the first day, which is today, the respondents (Willian Ruto, The IEBC, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati, and six IEBC commissioners) will be served with a notification informing them that they have a case to respond to (Tuesday, August 23).
From Wednesday through Saturday, August 27th, the respondents may prepare their responses, which they will serve on the court as a rejoinder on Sunday, August 28th.
On Monday, Interlocutory Applications and other matters that have arisen and need to be floored before the court will be filed.
If there is a response, it will be delivered on Tuesday, August 30. A pre-trial for the petitions will also take place on the same day.
If any applications are filed, they may be submitted by a third party or a friend of the court on Wednesday.
The case will then proceed to a main trial, which will last until Monday, September 5.
Azimio La Umoja – One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua, activists Okiya Omtatah, Khelef Khalifa, David Kairuki Ngari, Moses Kuria, John Njoroge Kamau, Reuben Kigame, and John Githongo, and lobby group Youth Advocacy Africa filed the nine petitions.
