At least 20 political heavyweights are vying to deputize ODM leader Raila Odinga in the August 9 elections, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
The Noah Wekesa-led panel which is vetting potential running mates for Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance presidential flagbearer Odinga had received 20 names by Thursday evening.
“We have received 20 applications. I can’t disclose the names. Our analysis team are still busy working on the applications,” said Elizabeth Meyo, who is the secretary for the seven-member panel.
On Thursday, the One Kenya Alliance team of Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Gideon Moi (Kanu), David Ochieng (Movement for Democracy and Growth), and Cyrus Jirongo (UDP) rallied behind Kalonzo, making him the most preferred candidate for Raila’s running mate.
Among the names recommended to the panel include; Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Martha Karua (Narc) and Charity Ngilu (Nark Kenya).
Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth and Muranga Women Rep Sabina Chege had also been recommended by Jubilee.
Governors Lee Kinyanjui (Nakuru), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega), Hassan Joho (Mombasa) and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya were also recommended.
The last batch of names were not confirmed but as previously stated, the panel will announce the winner on May 10th.
