Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has denounced remarks made by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi during a UDA political gathering in Eldoret on Saturday.
Linturi’s views were regretful, according to the ODM leader, who also urged politicians against spreading seeds of conflict between Kenyan communities.
"If someone speaks in a way that is intended to incite Kenyans, we immediately recognize it." We heard about 'Madoadoa' the other day in Eldoret. "I am here to respond to them; we will not accept that," declared the former Prime Minister.
Raila, who was in Kiambu to meet mothers of Kenyan political prisoners, condemned the remarks, saying they were dangerous and could spark ethnic bloodshed.
"Kikuyus have the right to live in Eldoret not because of pity, or at the mercy of another person, but as a Kenyan. A Luo will live in Nyeri and a Kikuyu in Homa Bay."
He stated that the country cannot afford to return to the post-election violence of 2007/08, when many Kenyans were internally displaced, a problem he promised to address once he becomes the country’s fifth president by ensuring that all IDPs are resettled.
