Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga has promised to help rebuild a church that was burned down during protests in Kibra on Monday.
Raila has promised to deliver iron sheets to affected communities to help with reconstruction.
Raila gave the Kibra Muslim community an iftar gift on Wednesday while speaking with community leaders at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, promising that the Christian communities would receive their contribution on Sunday.
The opposition leader promised to help rebuild the Masjid A-Aqsa Islamic Mosque and the Pentecostal Church of East Africa (PCEA) church, which were torched in Kibra constituency on Monday night following anti-government protests.
The two were set ablaze after fighting between two rival gangs erupted following a series of rallies in the slum addressed by Raila on the second day of mass protests against high living costs and a victory Odinga claims was stolen from him in last year’s election.
The attack also resulted in property destruction in Kibra, robberies, and attacks on journalists covering the protests.
A local businessman only identified as John, whose hardware and pub were destroyed, is among those counting huge losses.
According to the businessman, the club where he made a living had nearly KES 4 million in stock as of Monday.
