Real Madrid Narrow Gap on Barcelona with 2-0 Win over Getafe

Real Madrid closed the distance to LaLiga leaders Barcelona to just one point, following a decisive 2-0 victory over Getafe at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday.

The triumph comes on the heels of Barcelona’s unexpected 2-1 defeat to Las Palmas on Saturday, allowing Carlo Ancelotti’s side to capitalize on their rivals’ slip.

Jude Bellingham opened the scoring for Madrid from the penalty spot in the 30th minute after Allan Nyom fouled Antonio Rudiger. Despite Kylian Mbappé’s recent penalty miss against Liverpool midweek, Bellingham showed composure, successfully converting from 12 yards and extending his perfect record from penalties in the top five European leagues to four scored.

Just eight minutes later, Bellingham turned goal-scorer into provider, setting up Mbappé, who struck a stunning effort from outside the box. This marked Mbappé’s 10th goal of the season, as he continues to shine in LaLiga.

The victory also marked a significant achievement for Madrid, who recorded three consecutive clean sheets for the first time this season and have now won their last 16 home matches against Getafe, matching their longest consecutive victories against a single opponent in the competition.

On the other hand, Getafe’s defeat leaves them precariously positioned in 17th place, with only goal difference keeping them out of the relegation zone. As the title race heats up, Real Madrid will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming fixtures.
