A Nairobi woman was on Wednesday arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts after being found in possession of ammunition without a valid firearm certificate.

Wanda Wanjiru Okisai appeared before the court where she faced a charge of being in possession of one round of 9x19mm ammunition.

According to the prosecution, the accused was found with the ammunition on October 30, 2025, at around 2:00 p.m. at Hazina Trade Centre within Nairobi’s Central Business District. She did not have a valid firearm certificate authorizing her to possess the ammunition.

Okisai pleaded not guilty to the charge. Through her lawyer, she requested the court to consider reasonable bail and bond terms, noting that she had fully cooperated with the investigating officers since her arrest.

The defence further informed the court that the accused is a first-time offender and has never been in conflict with the law. The lawyer added that she was arrested on October 30 and later released on police bond, which she faithfully honoured.

It was also stated that Okisai had recently completed her university studies and remains under the care of her parents as she is yet to secure employment. Her lawyer urged the court to take into account her young age and circumstances, emphasizing that although she was charged with possession of a single round of ammunition, there was no evidence it had been used to cause harm.

The prosecution did not object to the plea for bail, but the court directed that the bail and bond terms would be discussed and determined during the pre-trial stage.

Okisai will remain in custody pending the court’s ruling on her bail and bond application.
