Record company Warner which has a record deal with Master KG has stopped reggae after they recently started demanding for license fees for anyone using the song in dance videos. – By Stephanie Mwangi.
According to a magazine named focus the company has written to organisations all over Germany asking them to pay up. The license fees were put up in January 2021.
Here in Kenya members of parliament and some of its staff took part in the Jerusalema challenge, not only them but so many organizations, a copyright lawyer said that nothing is stopping the recording company from filling the same claim in Kenya and maybe it won’t be long enough before the recording company gets to them.
‘They could make similar demands in Kenya because the law stipulates that the owner of the copyright has the exclusive right to control the distribution, reproduction or any other kind of work. One must seek a license from the owner to use the song.” said one of the copy rights lawyer in Kenya .
