Reuben Kigame Blasts Ruto For Failing To Address The Cost Of Living

Former presidential candidate Reuben Kigame has criticized the government for failing to address the challenges that Kenyans are facing.

According to Kigame, legislators have turned a blind eye to the pressing issues facing Kenyans in favour of bush league issues.

In a statement to newsrooms on Saturday, Kigame cited a number of recent events in which the government made rash decisions that have weakened the fight against high living costs.

He cited the swearing-in of the Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) on Thursday, claiming that the move is an unnecessary burden on taxpayers and that the budget allocated for their offices can be allocated to major development projects.

“The Ksh. 460 million annually in salaries and more that will be spent on unnecessary luxury vehicles and offices would be enough to build more than 1,000 new schools. We demand the immediate revocation of these appointments,” he said.

Kigame claimed on the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) programme that approximately 140,000 students have been left stranded due to a lack of tuition money, requesting that the Treasury release Ksh. 5.7 billion to help alleviate the situation.

He shared the same sentiments on university fee increment which he termed as “burdensome and oppressive.”

“It is such a shame that as this happens, the government is busy allocating Billions for officials to occupy unconstitutional offices, Vehicles and entertainment budgets,” he said.

As a result, Kigame has urged parliament to address the issue as soon as possible in order to achieve a stable economy in the country.

“We wish to unequivocally state that parliament has let Kenyans down,” he noted.

“Our position on the cost of living is directed to parliament and we DEMAND that Parliament immediately adjourns business to take time to discuss these issues and offer a clear way forward for the lowering of the cost of living.”
