REVEALED: Why Police Arrested Morara Kebaso

Lawyer-turned-activist Morara Kebaso was on Tuesday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi hours after being arrested by detectives at his office in Kahawa Sukari.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution preferred several charges against the Inclusive National Justice, Economic and Civic Transformation (INJECT) party leader including cyber harassment contrary to Section 27 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act.

In a charge sheet seen by Uzalendo News, the prosecution argues that on September 28, 2024, Morara Kebaso alongside his accomplices allegedly posted false information about David Langat.

According to the charge sheet, Kebaso, using the Twitter account “@MoraraKebasoJnr,” is alleged to have posted content falsely implicating Kenya’s President William Ruto in a financial scheme that involved coercing Langat into auctioning his properties.

The post claimed that Ruto used his political influence to buy Langat’s properties at below-market prices. The post also insinuated that the two had a personal relationship tainted by betrayal.

The post, made on September 28, 2024, suggested that Langat had used his assets as collateral to secure loans to support Ruto’s political campaign, only to be later manipulated into a forced sale.

“William Ruto approached DL Langat and told him he desperately needs more money for campaign. DL Langat used his properties as security and took big loans to help his friend. Right now, DL Langat is being auctioned by banks and the person buying the properties is William Ruto.

“To make it worse, William Ruto has used his power to undervalue the properties to buy them at a cheaper price. That is the kind of person you’re dealing with. He has no friend,” reads the chargesheet.

Earlier, the activist was brought into the court premises in the company of his lawyers including NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua.

Also present on Morara’s side were Democratic Alliance Party of Kenya (DAP-K) party leader Eugene Wamalwa and other lawyers.

Kenyans who camped at the court premises in protest burst into cheers as Morara walked into the court.

At the same time, Kenyans chanted ‘Free Morara’ and several anti-government slogans, calling for the resignation of President William Ruto.
