Titus Ondari Omwenga, a 9-year-old student in Grade 4 at Riang’ombe Boarding School in Esise, Borabu, received 107 canings for failing to wear his uniform on Sunday.
Jackson Marucha, the teacher who attacked him, has been named; according to sources, he kept the youngster hidden in a dorm until other students revealed the truth to a passer-by.
He was assaulted once more on Monday for arriving late to class and is currently being treated at Nyamira Referral Hospital.
The boy’s uncle went to Manga and made the decision to meet the boy during a sporting event, but when he couldn’t find the boy, he asked for his whereabouts when other children began to talking about the incident.
The youngster had misplaced his shirt and wanted to report it, the students informed the uncle, but the teacher was oblivious to everything.
He beat the boy with an electric cable while asking other big boys to hold him in place. When he saw that the boy was hurt, he hid him in the dorms and began nursing him.
Police in Manga have also rejected the family P3 form, citing that they want the Grade 4 student to recall the males who held him.
Headteacher Isabella Kumenda was not at school while all of this was happening.
