A group of Rift Valley leaders is calling for the arrest of Tiaty MP William Kamket, accusing him of making inciteful remarks during Mashujaa Day celebrations.
Kamket’s speech, which initially urged peaceful coexistence among Pokot, Tugen, and Ilchamus communities, took a controversial turn when he addressed the gazetting of Mukutani town as a forest.
He condemned the move, calling those responsible “crooks” and promising that the community would handle the matter without involving Nairobi.
“We will handle that ourselves… there is no forest there, and no public participation was done,” Kamket said.
He also criticized the building of administrative offices in the town, claiming he had respected orders by keeping his distance but was treated unfairly.
Kamket’s remarks, particularly his references to past conflicts in Kapedo, have sparked outrage.
Several leaders from the region accused him of inciting division, warning that his statements could lead to tribal clashes.
“We want Kamket behind bars. He is an inciter and a warlord,” one leader declared.
They urged the national government and human rights organizations to intervene, accusing Kamket of using banditry to intimidate opponents and create insecurity in the region.
Kamket has since begun constructing a Chief’s office in Mukutani, further escalating tensions.
