Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has touched down in the United States for a high-stakes two-month diaspora tour, marking his first international trip since his dramatic exit from office in October 2024.

Gachagua arrived at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport late Thursday, accompanied by his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, to a jubilant reception by Kenyan supporters. Videos from the airport showed crowds waving flags, singing, and dancing, with chants of “Riggy G!” echoing through the terminal.

“The love and support I received is unmatched,” Gachagua posted on X (formerly Twitter). “I am truly excited to engage our people abroad and discuss matters affecting our great nation.”

Gachagua, now the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), is expected to hold town hall meetings and diaspora dialogues in Seattle, Dallas, California, Boston, and Baltimore, in what observers see as a bold step towards a 2027 presidential bid.

Though he has not formally declared his candidacy, Gachagua has openly vowed to block President William Ruto from securing a second term. His US visit is widely seen as an attempt to mobilize the diaspora vote and tap into international networks to build momentum.

Sources close to the former DP confirm he is also expected to meet US-based investors and policy influencers “keen on supporting alternative leadership” in Kenya.

Gachagua’s departure from Nairobi was seen off by close allies including Senator John Methu, Woman Rep Jane Njeri Maina, and former Senator Cleophas Malala, signaling continued loyalty among sections of Mt. Kenya and Western political circles.
