Rights Group Demand a Fair Deal as Kenyans Mark IDPWD

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights stated in a statement that people with disabilities face violations of their rights.

As Kenyans observe International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a rights group has called for the inclusion of people with disabilities.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights stated in a statement that people with disabilities face violations of their rights.

“We emphasize again that disability is a human rights issue. People with disabilities are frequently subjected to multiple violations of their rights, including physical and psychological violence “The statement read.

“Because of their disability, others face abuse, prejudice, abandonment, and disrespect” proceeded the statyement.

According to the statement, violations of their rights frequently intersect with other factors such as age and gender.
Counties across the country have been put on spot for not having policies in place to include people with disabilities.

Hassan Harun, CEO of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities, stated on Friday in Nairobi that there are issues with counties regarding PWD.

He went on to say that the national government has initiatives that allow people with disabilities to access government policies, whereas county governments lack policies that govern people with disabilities.

According to the Persons with Disabilities Amendment Bill 2020, every county government should implement national policies to protect and promote the welfare of people with disabilities.
