The river has flooded as a result of the ongoing rain, and residents are afraid for their lives.
The Ksh 500 million bridge, which the government started building earlier this year, is yet to be completed.
Last year,Infrastructure PS Paul Mainga told MPs that the ministry had secured Sh500 million for the construction of the bridge, which was set to begin in January of this year.
According to the PS, the bridge’s construction was supposed to take two years but would be speeded up due to the long rains at the time.
The ill-fated bus was ferrying a church choir and other guests to a wedding in Kitui on Saturday when it was swept away by fast-flowing waters as the driver attempted to navigate a submerged bridge.
