Rixxos Club Owner Arrested In Kitengela

The owner of Kitengela’s Rixxos Club, who is accused of harassment by one of the club’s female employees, has been arrested.

The man, only identified as James, is said to have gone into hiding after a video of the alleged harassment went viral last week.

Isinya sub-county Police Commander Ancient Kaloki confirmed the arrest, saying that the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday around 5 pm at Green Ice in Kitengela after reportedly coming out of hiding.

According to Mr. Kaloki, the embattled businessman is being held at the Kitengela Police Station.

Following a directive from the National Police Service (NPS), the female employee captured in the viral video allegedly harassed by James recorded her statement on December 9, 2022.

She and five of her coworkers accused the club’s director of using his alleged connections with people in high places to intimidate them.

However, the establishment defended the actions seen in the viral video, claiming that the waitresses and bartender stormed the Rixxos premises and threatened management, resulting in the drama.

The management stated that the six employees were being investigated on suspicion of stealing and defrauding the company, which the complainants denied.

“Recently as the Rixxos management, we had an issue with a few of our waitresses and our barman which we reported to the local DCI office on 24th November 2022 upon which they offered help and arrested the workers on 1st December 2022 on suspicion of stealing and defrauding from the company,” read the statement released on Friday last week.

“After wide consultation with our IT department regarding losses, we have been recording the past few weeks, we followed some leads and came to the conclusion it was through the use of past M-Pesa codes in our systems to settle the current bills of our customers.”

The employees were later released on bond to allow the investigations to continue, according to Rixxos management.

They allegedly chose to storm the entertainment establishment in order to demand their pay, giving rise to the viral video.

“After release, they came to our premises threatening the management and hence the drama began between our management and the aforesaid workers who were asking for their monthly salary and that’s where we made it clear that we could not pay them until the investigation is completed,” said Rixxos.

The owner of the establishment can be heard in the video hurling the female attendant and explicitly stating that he will not pay the woman what he allegedly owes her.

He even tells the woman that she can’t hurt him because he’s allegedly ‘close’ friends with President William Ruto.

“I am not paying you. You can’t take me anywhere; I talk to the president directly. Mimi nikisema nikukalie saa hii utaenda na kesi mbaya. Utakuwa unanipigia simu unanibeg. Nishakuambia sikulipi.”
