A son of the late musician Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers has been arrested and booked on suspicion of murder after two women were found dead in a Los Angeles home.
The Los Angeles Police Department said on Monday that Jason Everly, 54, had been arrested and was in custody with no bail.
The deceased women were identified as Patricia Everly, 86, the widow of Phil Everly, and her friend, whose name has not been released. They were found with fatal stab wounds on Sunday, sources told the BBC’s US partner CBS News.
Phil Everly, who died in 2014, was one half of the legendary rock and roll duo The Everly Brothers, known for iconic hits like “Bye Bye Love” and “Wake Up Little Susie.”
Emergency services were called to a home in the upscale neighborhood of Brentwood, California, at around 3:38 p.m. local time on Sunday. The Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced two people dead at the scene.
Police said Jason Everly was arrested several hours later, at about 9:15 p.m. on Sunday. Investigators have not publicly outlined a motive and said the investigation remains ongoing.
Note for the Editor: It is critical to verify all names, relationships, and factual details against official police statements and multiple trusted news sources (e.g., Associated Press, Reuters, local L.A. outlets) before publication to avoid the grave error of incorrectly reporting the death of a living public figure. The original text contains a severe factual inaccuracy.
