Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly has criticised comedian-turned-philanthropist Eric Omondi’s efforts to mobilise youths in Langata Constituency to register as voters.
In a statement shared on his social media pages on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, Robert Alai condemned Omondi after he was seen receiving large crowds in remote areas of Langata, urging them to register as voters. Omondi had used the crowds as evidence that Kenyans were ready for generational change and a new dawn.
Alai argued that crowd sizes do not necessarily translate to votes, emphasising that the young men following Omondi are not reliable voters.
“Mature voters hate such commotion. Avoid at all costs. These young, crazy men aren’t reliable voters,” Alai said.
This comes at a time when Erick Omondi appears to be considering vying for the Langata parliamentary seat, potentially challenging the current MP, who was his former friend and fellow comedian, Felix Odiwour, alias Jalango.
Many believe that Omondi’s political interests are what drove him to begin humanitarian and philanthropic activities, which have made him popular and attracted large numbers of Kenyans to fundraising events.
Omondi, however, has stated that he has no intentions of running for political office but would consider it if the public and electorate demand it.
Jalango has challenged Omondi to shift his political ambitions from Langata and consider vying in Embakasi, which may become vacant if the incumbent, Babu Owino, decides to run for governor.
The advice from Jalango follows opinion polls conducted by Mizani Africa, which projected Jalango with a 55.8 per cent chance of winning the Langata race against Omondi, whom the polls placed at 5.5 per cent.
Jalango also warned Omondi that social media following does not necessarily translate to real support on the ground.
He cited his own experience, noting that despite having millions of followers on multiple social media platforms, he won the Langata seat by a narrow margin after a tight race with Lands PS, Nixon Korir, who came in second.
Should Eric Omondi run for the Langata seat, he would become the third Churchill Show comedian to try politics, following Jalang’o and MC Jessy.
