KCB Football Club has officially unveiled Robert Matano as its new head coach in a strategic move aimed at rejuvenating the team ahead of the 2025/2026 FKF Premier League season.
Matano, one of Kenya’s most decorated football tacticians, returns home after a brief coaching stint in Tanzania. He brings with him a stellar resume that includes four Kenya Premier League titles won with different clubs, a testament to his tactical acumen and winning mentality.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held at Kencom, Nairobi, Matano expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge. “I’m honoured to be joining KCB FC. This is a club with immense potential, strong backing, and a clear vision. I am here to win, to compete, and to build a team that reflects the strength and ambition of the KCB brand,” he said.
Joining Matano on the technical bench is John Njogu, a respected figure in the Kenyan football scene, who takes up the role of team trainer. The duo is expected to bring fresh energy and leadership as the club aims to climb higher in the league standings.
KCB FC patron Azu Ogolla hailed the appointment as a turning point for the club. “Today marks a significant milestone. In Robert Matano, we welcome a highly accomplished coach with an outstanding track record. His leadership and championship pedigree make him the ideal candidate to usher the club into a new era of success,” said Ogolla.
Renowned for his emphasis on youth development, tactical discipline, and mental fortitude, Matano has played a crucial role in shaping the careers of several Kenyan internationals. His coaching philosophy aligns with KCB’s ambition to nurture talent and build a competitive squad.
The club, which finished ninth in the 2024/25 season with 42 points, has now embarked on a comprehensive rebuild, focused on strengthening the technical bench, restructuring the playing unit, and ramping up pre-season preparations.
With Matano at the helm, KCB FC is aiming for nothing less than a title challenge in the upcoming season.
