AS Roma have officially unveiled Gian Piero Gasperini as their new head coach, handing the experienced tactician a three-year deal following his departure from Atalanta after nearly a decade of success.

The 67-year-old arrives in the Italian capital with an impressive résumé, having transformed Atalanta into one of Serie A’s most exciting and competitive sides, culminating in a Europa League title last season. Gasperini replaces Claudio Ranieri, who stepped down after guiding Roma to a fifth-place finish and will now move into an advisory role.

Speaking at his unveiling on Friday, Gasperini expressed excitement at taking on what he called a “great challenge.” He revealed that he chose Roma over other suitors, including Juventus, because of the club’s potential for growth and passionate environment.

“The club convinced me because it is a great challenge. I needed to have a big challenge and to come to an environment with great passion,” said Gasperini. “In my opinion, all the conditions are there to achieve this.”

He also pledged to win over Roma’s demanding fanbase with a dynamic style of play. “My commitment and that of the team will be to bring the fans to our side,” he said.

Roma’s management echoed that sentiment in a statement on the club’s website, describing Gasperini as “the right man for the mission,” citing his tactical creativity, strong work ethic, and proven ability to develop talent. Ranieri, who played a key role in the appointment, was present to welcome his successor.

Gasperini now faces the challenge of returning Roma to the Champions League, a goal that has eluded the club since 2018. With an expectant fanbase and the scrutiny of Rome’s intense media landscape, the new coach will need both results and resilience to succeed in the capital.
