Rose Okeno Named First Anglican Church Bishop

Rose Okeno has been consecrated as Kenya’s very first Anglican Church bishop.

She said she has what it takes to fulfill her responsibilities and satisfy the lofty expectations that have been put on her.

And the God who chose Rose Okeno as a minister of the gospel in the church will bring her through, said the bishop-elect of Butere ACK Diocese.

“He will enable me to carry out my responsibilities, and I am prepared to do so diligently,” the bishop stated.

In the Butere and Shikunga dioceses, she worked as the Women’s Ministry Coordinator for seven years, the Vicar General for four years, and the Diocesan Administrative Secretary for a year.

She has also spent a year as the Archbishop’s Commissary. She was the Archdeacon of the Shikunga Archdeaconry prior to her election in July.

Between 2003 to 2007, Okeno earned a Bachelor’s degree from Kenya Methodist University in between her religious obligations.

Many people will be interested to observe how she handles the responsibilities of an office that has traditionally been dominated by men.
