Ruku and Cheptumo Sworn In as Ruto Reshapes Cabinet, 14 New PSs Appointed

Geoffrey Ruku and Hanna Wendot Cheptumo were officially sworn in on Wednesday at State House, Nairobi, as Cabinet Secretaries for Public Service and Gender, respectively, becoming the newest additions to President William Ruto’s evolving Cabinet.

Their appointments come in the wake of a mini reshuffle that saw former Attorney General Justin Muturi exit the Public Service docket.

The two underwent vetting by the National Assembly’s Committee on Appointments earlier this week, where MPs grilled them on policy priorities, integrity, and past service delivery records.

At the swearing-in ceremony, President Ruto also announced the appointment of 14 new Principal Secretaries through a gazette notice dated April 16. Among the new PSs are Dr. Jane Imbunya, Regina Akoth, Cyrell Wagunda, Dr. Caroline Karugu, Dr. Fredrick Oluga Ouma, and Ahmed Ibrahim. Others include Judith Pareno, Boniface Makokha, Prof. Shaukar Abdulrazak, Stephen Isaboke, Michel Lenasalon, Frikirini Kahindi, Carren Achieng, and Aden Millah.

Addressing the newly-appointed officials, Ruto underscored the weight of the responsibilities now before them, stating, “We are facing exceptionally high expectations and demands from the public. Failing Kenyans is not an option.”

He emphasized the need for renewed commitment and focus to deliver on the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

“We must regain public confidence and ensure no one is left behind,” the President added.
