A Russian missile and drone assault on Ukraine’s capital overnight killed one person and injured 10 others, officials said Saturday, marking the latest wave of strikes targeting cities and infrastructure across the country.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv city military administration, said on Telegram that the attacks caused widespread damage in several districts of the capital.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the attack resulted in broken windows, damaged cars, and a crater in the courtyard of a residential building,” Tkachenko said, adding that a kindergarten was also damaged and several fires were triggered by the explosions.
Ukraine’s air force reported that it shot down four of nine Russian missiles and 50 of 62 drones launched overnight in attacks stretching across multiple regions.
Despite the interceptions, five missiles and 12 drones hit 11 sites nationwide, according to a statement posted by the air force.
The latest barrage underscores Moscow’s continued campaign of long-range strikes aimed at pressuring Ukraine’s defences and disrupting civilian life as winter approaches.
Kyiv has been a frequent target of such aerial assaults, which Ukrainian officials say are intended to exhaust air defence resources and undermine public morale.
Emergency crews in Kyiv worked through the night to extinguish fires and clear debris from damaged residential areas.
Authorities warned residents to remain in shelters during air raid alerts and to prepare for possible new attacks in the coming days.
