An overnight Russian drone attack on Ukraine’s central Kirovohrad region partially cut electricity and disrupted railway operations, local authorities said on Wednesday.
Governor Andriy Raykovych reported that the regional centre and 44 settlements in the Oleksandrivka territorial community had been left partially without power.
Several private homes were damaged, and railway services were interrupted. Emergency crews battled fires at three sites, though no casualties were reported.
Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba said the strike was aimed at crippling railway infrastructure. “Last night, the enemy launched a massive drone strike in an attempt to disable the substations that power the railway network,” he wrote on Telegram.
Kuleba stressed that the attacks were part of Moscow’s broader strategy to disrupt passenger and freight transport and exert pressure on Ukraine’s economy.
Ukrzaliznytsia, the state rail company, deployed more than 20 reserve locomotives to keep trains running after the assault.
The strike adds to a string of recent Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy and transport infrastructure as the war grinds on.
